Determination of the volume of standard rainfall intensity with the help of the Hungarian Meteorological Service’s (OMSZ) new service

The Hungarian Meteorological Service (OMSZ) has started a new, free service, helping to determine the volume of standard rainfall intensity. The aim of the service coincides with the LIFE-MICACC project’s and can provide important information to municipality which plan to design technical development on its sewage system.

Because of the intensifying rainfalls, the actualization of the maximum precipitation functions (which are from the 1970s) is inevitable during the planning process of rainwater drainage networks. On the new webpage after giving the location of the design site, the rainfall intensity data for planning, scaling and yield calculation will be freely accessible. The accessible, standard rainfall intensity values was determined by measurements from 101 automatic measuring stations from 1998-2019. A methodology description and design guide also help the work of design engineers, which can also be downloaded from the Rainfall intensity page.

The Hungarian Chamber of Engineers was commissioned by the General Directorate of Water Management to give professional support to the Hungarian Meteorological Service ensuring the necessary development of free design data service.
